This 2-session class will be held Thursdays, 5-8pm, March 11th and 18th.

What does a great meal or dessert have in common with ceramics, besides one often being served on the other? Well, if it is a well known restaurant then you often expect the presentation of the dish to be just as impressive as the taste. But look past the food for just a moment and you realize that without the dish itself, the chef would have no canvas to work upon. The bowl, plate, platter, cup or mug and it's glaze become integral to turning a good dish into a great one. Join Ceramicist Bryan Treakle for this three-hour workshop, where students will learn about the history and interactions of glaze in ceramics, and how cooking wouldn't be the same without glazed kitchenware as you create your own glazed dish.

Bryan Treakle obtained his BFA from Old Dominion University, with a focus in ceramics and metalworking. During his studies at ODU, Bryan was awarded the Daniel E. Frank Memorial Scholarship Endowment for Blacksmithing and Metalwork and the Barbara M. Gorlinsky Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship from the ODU Art Department, and the Lucy C. Morgan Scholarship from Penland School of Craft.
