Glaze Workshop
You might ask yourself, what does a great meal or dessert have in common with ceramics, besides, one often being served on the other? Well, if it is a Michelin restaurant then you expect the presentation of your dish to be just as impressive as the taste. But look past the food for just a moment and you realize that without the dish on which it is served, the chef would have no canvas to work upon. The bowl, plate, or mug, and its glaze become integral to making a good dish into a great one.
Join artist, Bryan Treakle of Kitthulhu Studios, as he discusses the history and importance of glazes in ceramics. Topics that will be discussed in this mini-lecture will include studio safety for glaze mixing, methods of glaze application, and various processes in making and testing a glaze for use. Demos will cover some of the glazing applications, as well as safety for handling raw materials.
