It was 25 years ago that Ruckus Watusi played “The Last Watusi” at Artspace Gallery. Over the past several years Ruckus has been performing for the VCU School of the Arts graduation ceremony and recently performed two pieces for “Unheard-of Practices 4” for the Richmond Dance Festival.
Ruckus Watusi is Pippin Barnett, Greg Collins, Christopher Hibben, and Robbie Kinter. Their performances are unique combinations of choreographed dance and music emanating out of unusual percussive instruments generated from found objects and home-made drums. Their performances exhibit the complex display of unique sound sculptures and compelling rhythms united with a dance troupe of 2 to 6 dancers moving to original choreography.
This rebirth performance offers an unforgettable and rejuvenating rhythmic engagement combined with a sense of humor and powerful dynamics.
