ABSTRACT ART CLASSES BY ASSOCIATE ARTIST JORGE A. SAENZ

Jorge uses thoughts, feelings and emotions to create his complex artwork. He relies on his architectural and fine arts background to create his layered effect of shapes and color fluctuations. Each artwork carries thoughtful color compositions layered with translucent drips and a heavy use of Asemic writing.

His work is striking and will hold your attention with contrasting color temperatures and intriguing pattern plays. Jorge activates all spaces with organic patterns, some are electrical and masculine, while others are fiery and feminine.

Inspired by abstract artists De Kooning and Frankenthaler, Jorge will teach you how to create abstract art through several steps that will inspire you to look at the world through different lens.

The classes are designed to run three in a row so that students can apply concepts learned during the first session during the remaining two sessions. During the first 2 1/2 hour class, students will create 15 minute art pieces to build speed and manipulation of mediums. During the second and third 2 1/2 hour sessions, Jorge will guide students to create one piece taking time to assess and make decisions. 

Students will create abstract art with acrylics and other mediums on paper as Jorge guides students through the following concepts:

• -Introduction to acrylic paint. (Learning how to use different brushes and what they do.)
• -Building value within your work from the beginning. (Tint, Tone and Shade)
• -Composition
• -Balance
• -Protecting negative space. (How to push back shapes and create perspective within your work.)
• -Repetition of Shapes
• -How to veil your colors with transparency.
• -Introducing mixed media into your work. When and how. (Graphite, Charcoal, Colored pencils, Soft pastels, Markers and Crayons).

He  currently also exhibits at the Virginia Beach Art Center and Charles Taylor Visual Center and can also be seen at the MOCA Food and Memory Exhibit. In January 2022, he will have a solo show at The Sandler Center. Most recently his work titled “Quiet Strength” was on exhibit during the Tribute Exhibition held at D- Art Center.
